Post-Election Thoughts (11/11/16)

I figured there weren’t enough people on the internet offering opinions no one else cares about, so I tried writing out my thoughts/questions about #Election2016 in stream-of-conscience, but they were ultimately a pointless, unhelpful mess — so here’s just the conclusion of it all; the closest I could come to an answer.
There’s a weird, big, run-down supermarket near my apartment that’s full of all the cereals of my childhood that have apparently either been quietly revived or just unsold since ’97, and the market opts to play Delilah instead of Muzak. Last night I found myself there, seeking dinner and comfort food, and as I stared up at shelves of cereal boxes that could rival Trump Tower, debating between Waffle Crisp, Cookie Crisp, and Smorz as a lovelorn guy from Ohio told Delilah about a phone call he had with a former flame, and she asked him how often he calls, and he said that he calls her show everyday, and she said, “No, I mean, how often do you call her?,” meaning his ex, and he said, “Oh. Yeah. Everyday,” and he emitted a telling human laugh as I finally settled on French Toast Crunch… all I could think was that life is weird, and life is vague, and that I’ve still got it good, and that all things considered, we’ve all still got it pretty good, and life is unknowable, and maybe that’s all there is to know. And that the guy from Ohio will be okay, and hopefully so will we.
